Front Porch Press β€” Legal Notice & Disclaimer

Last updated: Oct 8, 2026

Please read this notice before purchasing or using any Front Porch Press product, including the hardcover book What You Come From: Black History That Makes Them Proud and any free gift included with your order. By placing an order on shopfrontporchpress.com or using our products, you agree to the terms below.

1. Who We Are

Front Porch Press ("Front Porch Press," "we," "us," or "our") is a small independent publisher operated by Front Porch Press LLC, a Texas limited liability company. Our website is shopfrontporchpress.com and our customer support email is support@shopfrontporchpress.com.

2. Intended Use and Age Guidance

What You Come From is an educational children's book written for children ages 4 to 12 and designed to be read together with a parent, grandparent, guardian, or other trusted adult. Entries are written at an early-elementary reading level, and each entry includes a "Your Turn" box where a child may write an answer to a simple question.

The book is intended for reading, discussion, and writing activities only. Adults are responsible for deciding whether the book and its content are appropriate for a particular child and for supervising its use with younger readers.

3. Historical Accuracy and Sources

We work hard to make every entry accurate. Entries are researched from historical records, published sources, and, where available, United States patent records. However:

  • Historical records are imperfect. Dates, spellings, attributions, and biographical details sometimes differ between sources, and new research can change what is known. Some entries necessarily simplify complex history so that young children can understand it.
  • Patent numbers. Where we were able to confirm a patent number, it is printed on the entry. Where we could not confirm one, the patent number line is intentionally left blank. A blank line does not mean the person did not invent or contribute to the item described; it means we chose not to print a number we could not verify.
  • Not an official or academic authority. The book is an educational resource for families. It is not a scholarly reference, legal record, or official government publication, and it should not be relied on as the sole source for academic, legal, or professional purposes.
  • No affiliation or endorsement. Front Porch Press is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by the United States Patent and Trademark Office, any government agency, or any inventor, historical figure, family, estate, museum, or organization named or described in the book.

If you believe an entry contains an error, please email support@shopfrontporchpress.com with the page and your source. We review every correction request and may update future printings.

4. No Guaranteed Educational Outcomes

We hope the book helps children learn about and take pride in Black history. We do not promise any specific educational, academic, developmental, or emotional result from reading it. Every child and family is different.

5. Product Safety

  • The book. Our book is a hardcover with firm corners and edges. Do not allow young children to chew on the book or use it in any way other than reading. Keep away from water and heat.
  • Free gifts. From time to time, we may include a free gift with certain orders as part of a promotion, such as a pen set with 2- and 3-book bundles. Free gifts are not offered on every order. Pens and caps can contain small parts and may present a choking hazard. Not for children under 3. Pens should be used by children only under adult supervision. Ink may stain skin, clothing, and surfaces. Free gifts are provided as-is, have no cash value, may vary or be substituted, and may be discontinued at any time.
  • Writing in the book. We recommend age-appropriate pencils, crayons, or markers for the "Your Turn" boxes, used under adult supervision.

Front Porch Press is not responsible for injury, illness, or damage resulting from misuse of our products, from use by a child without appropriate adult supervision, or from use of a free gift contrary to the warnings above.

6. Inspecting Your Order on Arrival

Please inspect your order when it arrives. If your book arrives damaged, misprinted, or missing pages, or if an item is missing from your order, contact support@shopfrontporchpress.com within 7 days of delivery with your order number and a photo of the issue. We will replace the item or refund you.

7. Shipping

  • Orders ship within the United States only.
  • Shipping costs are shown at checkout. Orders over $55 qualify for free shipping; orders below that amount pay the shipping rate shown at checkout.
  • Delivery times are estimates and are not guaranteed. Once a package is handed to the carrier, delays caused by the carrier, weather, or other events outside our control are not our responsibility, but we will help you track the package and work with the carrier on your behalf.
  • If a package is marked delivered but you did not receive it, please contact us within 7 days of the delivery date. Please make sure your shipping address is correct before you check out; we are not responsible for orders shipped to an address entered incorrectly at checkout.

8. 60-Day Money-Back Guarantee

If you are not satisfied with your purchase, contact support@shopfrontporchpress.com within 60 days of the delivery date for a refund of the book price.

  • To get a refund, you must send the book back to us. The book must be unused and in like-new condition, with no writing, marks, or damage of any kind. You pay the cost of return shipping. Please email us before sending a return so we can give you the return address.
  • Refunds cover the book price only. Original shipping charges and return shipping costs are not refunded.
  • Refunds are issued to the original payment method. Your bank may take several business days to post the refund.
  • Free gifts do not need to be returned and are not refunded separately.
  • We may decline refund requests that show clear signs of abuse, such as repeated refund requests on multiple orders.

9. Pricing, Bundles, and Promotions

Prices, bundle offers (for example, "buy one, get one half off" or "buy two, get one free"), free-shipping thresholds, and free gifts are those shown on our website at the time you place your order. We may change prices and offers at any time without notice, but changes do not affect orders already placed. Promotions cannot be combined unless stated, have no cash value, and may end at any time. If an item is listed at an incorrect price because of an error, we may cancel the order and refund you in full.

10. Bulk, Gift, and Donation Orders

You are welcome to buy multiple copies to give as gifts or donate to schools, churches, libraries, or community organizations. Buying copies does not grant any right to reproduce, scan, copy, or redistribute the book's contents (see Section 11). For large orders of 25 or more copies, please contact us first.

11. Intellectual Property

You may read, share, and enjoy your copy, and you may quote brief passages for reviews, teaching, or commentary.
